Which consulate handles New Hampshire?

New York. Boston has no Chinese consulate for visa applications, so it isn't an option.

Getting to 12th Avenue

Few direct trains, so going yourself usually means driving twice

Apart from Amtrak's once-a-day Vermonter at Claremont, there's no direct passenger train from New Hampshire to Manhattan. For most of the state, going yourself means a four-to-five-hour drive each way, or a bus or train into Boston and another from there. Then do it again about four business days later for pickup, on a weekday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Which consulate?

Why New Hampshire applies through New York, not Boston

There's no Chinese consulate in Boston handling visas, so Boston is never an option. All of New Hampshire belongs to New York, along with Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont.

Your consulate is set by where you live. A Nashua resident who commutes into Massachusetts applies through New York either way.

Families, business travellers and students

Families

Many New Hampshire families fly to China through Boston Logan. The visa starts at home instead: each child needs their own application and parent documents (China visas for children).

Business travel

Technology and manufacturing companies in southern New Hampshire send staff to suppliers and partners in China. That usually means an M business visa.

Dartmouth & UNH

Students and faculty heading to China for programs or research. Applicants on non-U.S. passports pay different visa fees, so tell Mandy your nationality first.

Which Chinese consulate handles New Hampshire?

The Chinese Consulate General in New York handles China visas for all of New Hampshire, including Manchester, Nashua, Concord and Portsmouth. In COVA, choose New York as your consulate.

Can New Hampshire residents use a Chinese consulate in Boston?

No. There's no Chinese consulate in Boston that processes visas. New Hampshire residents, like everyone in Massachusetts, apply through the New York Consulate. More on the Boston question on our Massachusetts page.

Is there a Chinese consulate in New Hampshire?

No. There's no Chinese consulate anywhere in New Hampshire. The nearest one is the New York Consulate on 12th Avenue in Manhattan.

Do New Hampshire residents have to travel to New York for a China visa?

If you do it yourself, yes, twice: once to submit and once about four business days later to collect. With no direct train from most of New Hampshire to Manhattan, that's usually two long drives or two trips connecting through Boston. With ChinaVisaMail, we handle the in-person submission and pickup for you, and you never go to the Consulate.

Can an agent submit and pick up my passport?

Yes, and without a power of attorney. Because New York lets a representative submit and collect, two 500-mile round trips from New Hampshire become one tracked envelope. We handle the in-person passport submission and pickup on your behalf.

How long does a China visa take from New Hampshire?

Mail from Manchester or Nashua is usually quick; from the North Country, allow up to three business days. The Consulate's stage is approximately 4 business days (Standard) or approximately 3 (Express) from submission, within our end-to-end estimate of 11 to 13 or 8 to 11 business days from receipt. Estimates, not guarantees.

How much does a China visa cost from New Hampshire?

Going yourself means two long drives with Manhattan parking, or two bus or train trips via Boston. The Consulate's fee is $140 for U.S. citizens (all entry types, through December 31, 2026) and $23 to $68 for other passports, plus our service if you use us. Mandy confirms the total before you mail. See our China visa cost and government fees guide.

I'm at Dartmouth or UNH on a non-U.S. passport. Can I use your service?

Usually, yes. Hanover and Durham are a long way from any consulate, and mail works the same from there; if you legally live in New Hampshire, you apply through New York. Fees for non-U.S. passports run $23 to $68 by entry type through December 31, 2026, so tell Mandy your nationality first.
